Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 31}

Halloween.
This is my first Halloween not to be taking the kids out trick-or-treating.
14 years I've been taking kids out.
This year I am at work.  #@!%^%#$*@!^$(
I do like my job, but there are like two kids and one adult in here.  Nobody wants to be in the Library on Halloween.  (Including me.)
Oh well.
At least we have some candy in here to munch on.
Cheers!

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 29}

Today is national Hermit Day.  Not sure why, but it is.
 I enjoy being a hermit on occasion, but don't know that I would choose that lifestyle.  I would probably be more productive and I would probably more crazy!  Over the years I have learned that having time alone can really help me get re-energizes, but there are definitely times when the best medicine is the company of others!

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 26} Acorn Mailart

A recent swap-bot swap involved decorating an envelope with acorns.  I tried my hand at using water color pencils.  I liked it.  I think it would be much easier to paint with a brush than a q-tip.  But, alas, there are no brushes to be had in my household.

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 18}

I warn my kids.  Quite often.  To clean their rooms.  But they don't, so I do.

Today, my target was son #2.  It became nearly impossible to walk into his room without injury and I worried that if there was a fire no rescue workers would be able to get in there to find him.

Sleeves rolled up, garbage bags in hand, I went in.  Hours later, there were several bags of garbage, loads of donations, an organized closet and dresser, a pile for the wash, furniture dusted.  Happy Mommy.

I warn my kids.  When momma cleans the room there are no hostages.  Just victims.  Things go missing.  Sometimes forever.  I used to the do the ransom thing (do x chore to earn back stuff or pay $).  Today was not one of those days.  Amazing thing is, sometimes they don't even notice what's missing.  Ha!

So, I'm ready for lunch.  And a shower.  And the next room..........

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 16}

I'm the Tuesday Mommy!  Each week I get to volunteer in my daughter's first grade class.  So...much...fun!  I get to read with the kids and help them with sight words.  I enjoy watching them all grow and learn.  Last week, we went on a walking field trip to the local library (where I work).  Sometimes the best things in life are free!

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day 15}

It is actually raining here.  It hardly ever rains here.  Reminds me of home.

The weekend retreat was great.  I had so much fun getting to know more of the ladies at church better and making new friends.  The classes were exactly what I needed to get me pumped up for the winter.  I ate way too much junk food, though.  (Oh well.)

Blogtoberfest 2012 {Day 10}

Got to take my daughter's class on a walking field trip to the local library (where I work).  Felt like a rock star because I work there and the kids thought that was cool!

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day five}

Today, my family and I went to the Idaho Aquarium to see the newest & only sea turtle exhibit in Idaho!  My friend Stephanie was able to bring the turtle (named "Beam") from Florida.  On our way out, we had to snap a shot of my postcards that are for sale in the gift shop.
(That handsome man is my hubby!)

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day five}

Guess what I did yesterday!

I fixed the plug on my vacuum cleaner all by myself!

Never a dull moment!

Blogtoberfest 2012 {day four, late}

What I smelled on the bike ride home from work yesterday:

cigarette smoke
bbq
sheep manure
wood smoke

Never a dull moment!

Bogtoberfest 2012 {day three}

I have officially labeled this "The winter of my discontent."

My clothes dryer just died.
The living room is filled with wet clothes.
I don't have the money to buy another dryer.
I will be hanging clothes outside, for awhile.
A long while.
Winter is coming.
It's cold in winter.
I am officially depressed.

Blogtoberfest 2012 Day {two}

Today's excitement included a trip to the post office and the setting up of the postcard display at the library.  (I know, you all are jealous!)

Step one required a perusal of the collection.
 Here is one of the boxes and to it's right you can sort of see two of my postcard books.
Boring details:  The box was found at a sale at Michael's a few months ago.  The books I acquired at Target on the clearance rack.

Step Two:  the selection process.  I decided to go with pretty & brightly colored rather than the traditional touristy postcards.  Also through in the originals of my own designs.  And one shameless advertisement card with my business name on it.

Step Three:  the bike ride to the library, removal of the lost & found items that were in the display cabinet, a quick clorox wipe, and then the arranging.
(Photos to follow)

A couple of my fellow coworkers admired the collection and asked questions.  Being that I live in a small town, I invariably ran into a few friends as well.  Then I was off to deliver the lost & found items to the donation trailer that sits in the parking lot of our church.

Then home-back to the realities of homework, dinner, and the occasional neighbor kid.

All in a day's work.

Blogtoberfest 2012

This week I will be placing my some of my postcard collection in the display case at the library where I work.  Mixed in will be some of my personal designs.  I doubt anyone around here shares my interest in postcards, but I am a bit excited nonetheless.

Before I can set up the cards, it will be necessary to clear out the lost & found items that are in there.  Anyone lose a pair of sunglasses, car keys, pink plastic princess heels, or a purple watch?  Let me know.

A few weeks ago (my 2nd at my new job) the lovely library ladies at nerdtopia rearranged some of the collections included there.  Part of the shuffle included bringing the display case from the back of the library around the corner from Olive the guinea pig to directly across from the checkout counter at the edge of the teen section.  (pictures to be posted in a future post)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
